Sgt. 1st Class, E7, Bacary Sambou has been active duty Army since October 20, 1997. He has received a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, 5 Certificates of Achievement, 3 Army Commendation Medals, an Iraq Campaign Medal, an Iraq Expedition Medal, an Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and an Afghanistan Expedition Medal. On March 17, 2012 while delivering supplies to a sister unit in Calabus, Afghanistan, Barcary’s team received an IED blast. He suffered a spinal cord injury, two broken ribs, a broken foot, and mild Traumatic Brain Injury. He also suffers from severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Barcary currently requires the assistance of a wheelchair and is being rehabilitated at a transitional living facility in Avalon Park, Orlando.
