Partnerships for Progress: Seniors First
On November 6, 2014 Rebuilding Together Orlando with the sponsorship of Lowe’s Home Improvement made a difference in the life of one hardworking local senior, Yvonne Modeste of Pine Hills, Florida. The Robert Woods Johnson Foundation states that “good physical and mental health depends on having homes that are safe and free from physical hazards”. In order to achieve the goals stated by the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, RTO partnered up with Seniors First to make the house safe, secure and energy efficient in addition to beautifying the property. In following HUDs (Department of Housing and Urban Development) seven healthy housing principles, Seniors First and RTO installed new energy efficient windows, remodeled the bathroom and kitchen in order to provide Yvonne with a safe and healthy home. Yvonne is only one of the homeowners that RTO and Seniors First have helped this year. By partnering with organizations in 2015 and years to come, RTO will be able to expand its reach in the community.
