A Home Makeover for Vivian Olson

RSS

Pine Hills homeowner, Vivian Olson, received a home makeover just in time for the New Year. Ms. Olson has lived in her family home for the past two years with no running water and with black mold everywhere – in short, she was living in what some might call third world conditions right here in Orlando, FL.

Project sponsorship from Spectrum Communications helped to make it possible for Rebuilding Together Orlando (RTO) to provide Ms. Olson with the home repairs she so desperately needed. Her home was completely gutted and restored with new insulation, drywall, flooring, electrical, plumbing, bathroom and kitchen improvements. Additionally, Dryfast Systems, a local mold remediation company, donated their time and expertise to properly remediate all black mold from the home. Once all repairs were complete, The Mustard Seed of Central Florida provided Vivian with new furniture and clothing to help turn her ‘new’ house into a home.

Restoring homes like Vivian’s to a place where families can gather to enjoy one another’s company in safe and healthy surroundings is what Rebuilding Together is all about.  As the name implies, it takes many hands, skilled and unskilled, to get the job done. Paraphrasing the Rebuilding Together mission statement, Ed Green, Executive Director, said, “Together, we can transform the life of this low-income homeowner by improving the safety and health of her home, thereby helping to revitalize our community.”
